ABOUT THE OWNER

Gaige Clark is a Flowersmith by trade. A professional craftsman in the art of caring, designing, growing, retailing and packaging flowers, she is the founder, owner, and creative director of SPRUCE, one of New York's most highly acclaimed and awarded flower boutiques.

Gaige reinvented Spruce’s brand of floral design in 1999 and coined it “New England Garden.” The style has gained popularity in the world design community and can be seen on television shows like Ugly Betty, Ellen, Law & Order, Damage, and the movie Bride Wars.

From Hudson, Massachusetts, Gaige descends from a family of New England gardeners. In the 1940s her great-great-grandmother, Marion Leary, founded The Hudson Gladiola Farm and had the honor of having Henry Ford as one of her regular clients.

Recently, Gaige produced two new lines of all-natural, handmade soap that she makes herself in her barn in Bearsville, New York. "SPRUCE Soap" and "Bearsville Barn Soap" are both made of local and organic ingredients and contain the highest quality therapeutic-grade essential oils.

In addition to running Spruce, Gaige plays the drums, grows her own flowers, rides her bike, cuts the grass, and is writing a book about her experiences at Spruce. She lives with her two rescue dogs Blue and Ruthie in Bearsville, New York.
